Facial Definition
A clearer contour begins with understanding what shapes it
Definition is the relationship between features: cheek to midface, chin to jawline, and jawline to neck. A softer contour may come from muscle, fat distribution, skin laxity, volume or bone structure. The right plan depends on which of these is actually shaping the face.
- A lower face that appears wider or heavier
- A chin that feels out of proportion with the profile
- Less separation between the jawline and neck
- Asymmetry between the two sides of the face
- Contours that look soft despite stable body weight
What creates facial shape
Bone provides the underlying framework. Fat compartments and soft tissue create transitions, muscles influence width and movement, and the skin forms the surface envelope. A strong masseter can widen the lower face; limited chin projection can change how the jawline reads; laxity can blur an otherwise balanced structure.
Why copying a fashionable shape rarely works
A sharply angled jaw or highly projected chin does not suit every face. Definition should be judged in relation to the forehead, cheeks, lips, neck and profile. Treating one isolated angle without considering the rest can make the face look less coherent.
How LIVO assesses definition
We examine the face from the front, oblique view and profile, both at rest and in movement. We assess masseter strength, chin and jaw proportions, volume distribution, skin laxity and natural asymmetry. The goal is a clearer version of your own structure.
- Jawline slimming — selected botulinum toxin treatment when masseter muscle bulk contributes to lower-face width.
- Dermal fillers — precise support for the chin, jawline or other structural points where appropriate.
- Radiesse® — structural support and collagen stimulation in selected contour areas.
- Sculptra® — gradual support when broader facial volume quality has changed.
- Sofwave™ — collagen-focused tightening when skin laxity softens the jawline or submental transition.
Daily skincare and sun protection
Morning — keep the routine simple: gentle cleansing, an antioxidant such as vitamin C or niacinamide, moisturizer as needed, and SPF 30 or higher on the face and neck.
Evening — focus on thorough cleansing and hydration. Consider using a hydrating face mask to provide the skin with sufficient moisture and nourishment.
Topical products can refine the skin overlying a contour, but they cannot slim the masseter muscle, remove submental fat or change bone and chin proportions.
Patch-test new products and introduce one active ingredient at a time. Apply sunscreen generously about 15 minutes before sun exposure; when outdoors, reapply at least every two hours and sooner after swimming, sweating or towel drying.
Can jawline slimming change my jawbone?
No. It reduces selected muscle activity and may gradually reduce muscle bulk; it does not alter bone width.
Does a defined jawline always need filler?
No. Muscle, laxity, fat distribution and chin proportion may matter more than missing volume.
Can I combine tightening and contour treatment?
Sometimes. The sequence should reflect which layer contributes most and how the first treatment changes the plan.
Definition without losing identity
At LIVO, facial definition is planned around proportion and movement—not a standardized jawline copied from someone else.
